Responsibility … duh
Have you noticed how in today’s society that nobody wants to accept any personal responsibility?
If some idiot takes a chainsaw into a six foot deep trench and then manages to cut half his leg off these days, he sues the chainsaw company for not putting a warning on the chainsaw that it shouldn’t be used in a hole where the person does not have the room to safely operate ANY tool! The duh part? The companies many times actually pays these fools because it’s still cheaper than going to court.
There are so many examples of this type thing it’s just plain ridiculous. Instead of folks owning up to their own responsibility they want new laws enacted to “protect them”. The problem is that no law can protect folks from just plain ignorance.
I read a story today about a new law being considered in Australia about online porn and violent websites. “Labor moves to block internet porn and violence” The below quote is just yet another example of lack of personal (in this case parental) responsibility.
He said the system requiring ISPs to offer subscribers cheap or free filter software was not working because few parents used them.
So make a new law because the parents that managed to buy a computer and pay for an online connection do not want to take the time to learn how to make the computer “child safe”? Or better yet, the parents could actually monitor what the child is doing when they are online possibly?
We are becoming less of a self reliant society more and more each day it seems. To me at least, that is a scary path that will lead to over regulation in so many different situations that one will have no real concept of freedom any longer. Freedom comes at a price and be it freedom of speech, appearance or actions, in order to keep those rights, people in general need to accept the responsibility that comes with them!
