While reading through some different news sources, I ran across this today:

Heart health poor for teens

An analysis of national surveys found 34 percent of girls and boys age 12 to 19 showed a poor level of cardiovascular fitness on a treadmill test.

Now who would have thought that this would be the case? The elementary schools in this area do not have supplied sports. That isn’t until junior high or high school. Saving a few bucks evidently means it’s ok not to have those sports programs available at a younger age. We surely do not want to expose kids to actual physical activities in these days of electronic “everythings” do we?

Video games, computers, electric toothbrushes, automatic vacuums, riding lawnmowers, mini bikes and so forth are great in my opinion but it wouldn’t hurt to have those kids enjoying all that stuff to actually do some physical activites as well! Have the kids use a push mower, get them a bike to get around on, have them actually push a vacuum around a few rooms, have them help in the garden instead of watching TV .. all of these things do have benefits for the kids themselves!

Reading articles like the above just makes me want to scream “DUH” at those that it actually surprises. Common sense needs to start at home. Teaching kids the benefits of physical activities should start young so that they learn to enjoy it. Those that can’t see that …. are bound to be constant content contributors for duh dot com in the future.
